Spring 2010 NY & DC Trip Announcement
A group of 100 8th grade students and parents from the Kellogg and Einstein communities have recently returned from this year's annual Spring Break Student Trip to New York, Philadelphia, the Amish Countryside and Washington DC. A similar trip for next year's 8th graders and the new 7th graders will take place during the 2009/2010 school year and will be limited to 100 people as this year's trip was. Eighth graders will have priority in signing up and a wait list will be made for those that would like to sign up beyond the 100 person limit as we did this year.
In order to receive information about the next trip, you will need to let Mr. Monahan, the teacher in charge of the tour for the past 22 years, know of your interest prior to the informational packets that will be mailed to those that are interested.
We will have open enrollment for the trip through this coming September. Since the trip is not a school-sponsored field trip, please email Mr. Monahan at: trip.info@yahoo.com or call his home: 425-486-7586, with the student's name, address and phone number. You may also leave information about other students that you think will be interested in learning about the trip.
A packet with details about the trip, an upcoming informational meeting in the fall, and instructions about how to sign up will be mailed to those that express interest.
Albertson’s Community Partners Program - So far this year, we have made $1,000. We need your help to continue earning funds! Even if you have linked your Preferred Savings Card to Kellogg in the past, you need to re-link your card number by Feb. 28, 2009 in order for us to continue earning funds. Link (or re-link) your Albertson’s Preferred Savings card to Kellogg now at www.albertsonscp.com. It will only take a minute and will help us greatly.
Kellogg’s organization ID# is 49000115742.
The Science Garden Committee is looking for a couple of birdhouses to hang in the cherry tree, a new screen door for the greenhouse, vegetable starts, native or drought-tolerant plants, and more muscle power to help dig and remove the remaining blackberries, clean up the compost bins and weed the beds before the spring growth starts. Parents who enjoy this type of work are welcome to lend a hand. To volunteer, email president@kelloggptsa.org and ask for contact information to Marianne Mersereau.
It's time to start planning the 8th grade party! This end-of-year celebration needs a parent or two to make it happen. There's information on "how to" from previous years, so you don't have to figure it all out again. Ask a friend to do it with you, and then contact president@kelloggptsa.org if you can help.
The new WA Superintendent of Public Instruction, Randy Dorn, is suggesting private philanthropy (donations) as the solution to funding public education in Washington. Please remind your legislators that the state constitution specifies that the "paramount duty" of the government of Washington is to fund basic education. Write to them, call them, or go to www.FundOurSchools.org to copy or sign onto a letter there.

We will accomplish this mission by speaking on behalf of our children before governmental bodies that make decisions affecting children, to assist parents in developing skills needed to help their children and to bring the home, teachers and parents closer as they continue to build toward this goal.
