WELCOME FROM YOUR PTSA!!

PTSA President’s Message Summer/Fall 2009

Welcome to the Kellogg Knights! We hope you had a wonderful summer and we look forward to the beginning of an exciting school year. As our teens strive for independence in these middle school years while saying goodbye to the familiarity of elementary school, the goal of the Kellogg PTSA is to remain a resource for you and your family, to “KEEP CONNECTED” with your child, their friends, teachers, the school staff and community. We have many ways to help you remain informed and involved while “stepping back” to watch this exciting journey.

With your permission, we send Email Bulletins every other Friday all year long, to provide you up-to-date information on important dates, events, short news items, and reminders. In addition, we send a monthly newsletter “The Scroll” packed with announcements and school news which shouldn’t be missed. “The Scroll” can be mailed to your home or sent via email as well, depending on what method you prefer. Please see the paperwork that accompanies this letter for more details.

Our website, kelloggptsa.org, is an excellent resource with calendars, meeting minutes, and links to family resource information. We also encourage attendance at our PTSA Board Meetings which are open to everyone and held on the first Tuesday of each month at 7pm in the Kellogg Library. These meetings are excellent opportunities to hear the “Principal’s Report” on the happenings at Kellogg. You’ll never feel left out of what seems the big unknown of middle school.

In addition, keep in contact through the PTSA Student Directory, a valuable resource throughout the year as your student’s meet new friends and families.

Membership in PTSA is NOT a fundraiser for Kellogg. Your membership dues help fund and support our state and federal lobbyists who speak for all children through watchdog legislation on child welfare and education issues. We do have one major fundraiser during the year, called “Pass the Hat” which begins during Back to School Night on September 17th. This fundraiser helps support after school Hang Time, scholarships, classroom grants to teachers, field trips, school dances, and more! We hope you will consider participating to help keep our programs going. And, if you can, there are plenty of volunteer opportunities, from helping bake cookies for a school dance, mailing receipts in for rebates to the school, etc. Every little bit helps and is very much appreciated.
